Casa TO

Casa TO Hotel, Mexico

Casa To, located in the picturesque coastal town of Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca, is a prime example of an architectural endeavour that successfully harmonises with its natural surroundings. The brainchild of French architect Ludwig Godefroy, the boutique hotel boasts a minimalist design aesthetic that is both visually striking and ecologically sensitive.

One of the most notable design elements of the hotel is the stepped seating area cascading down to the pool. The terraced design creates a visually striking impression, as well as being a dynamic place for guests to relax. As well as leading down to the pool, the steps lead up to a rooftop where guests can enjoy views of the surrounding jungle. The walls, floors and ceilings are made of concrete which gives the hotel a cavernous feeling — a design that was inspired by traditional Oaxacan temples.

Sustainability was a key consideration in the design of the hotel. To minimise the environmental impact, the hotel uses solar panels to generate electricity and a greywater treatment system to recycle wastewater. Additionally, the use of natural materials in the construction, such as local stone and wood, helps the building blend in with its natural surroundings. This approach not only reduces the ecological footprint of the hotel but also creates a sense of harmony and balance between the man-made and organic environments.
