The heart of a financial district isn’t where you’d expect to find a calm, serene hotel, but then again, Aman Tokyo is no ordinary hotel. Taking over the top six floors of Otemachi Tower, Aman takes an understated yet luxurious, no-detail-spared approach to hospitality that makes it an urban retreat quite unlike anywhere else.
After finding the discreet entrance of the hotel and heading up in the elevator, you’ll walk into the lobby that perfectly sets the tone for your entire Aman Tokyo experience. With its sky-high ceilings, comfortable low-lying lounge seating, indoor garden, floor-to-ceiling windows and smiling reception staff, the lobby is at once grand and peaceful.
It’s a sentiment that continues to the bright and airy rooms with touches of Japanese design—washi paper sliding doors, tatami rolls and monochrome calligraphy scrolls donning the walls—giving them a warm, homely feel. The rooms are all generously sized, with suites occupying up to 157 square metres. They include a separate living room with dining area and pantry spaciously laid out in the timber space. A highlight is the bathroom with a traditional furo soaking tub nestled right next to the window.
If you manage to tear yourself away from your room, head to the 34th floor where you’ll find the striking 30-metre swimming pool. Daybeds are dotted around the charcoal-grey tiled space, perfectly positioned in front of steel-framed windows that overlook the high-rise city (with views of Mount Fuji, if you’re lucky).
Dinner is served in Aman’s Arva restaurant, which offers innovative Japanese-inspired Italian fare, as well as the recently-opened sushi spot Musashi. Finish off your evening with a nightcap in the Lounge by Aman, a bar with unrivalled views of Tokyo’s glistening lights.
